Looking through a pair of glasses at an eye test chart with area outside of lenses blurred

Disability Discrimination in Glasses?

I have bad vision. I’m very nearsighted and have serious astigmatism.

I had no idea that people with different prescriptions paid different prices for glasses… until I got married and helped set up my wife on Zenni Optical(not an endorsement or affiliate though my wife has been quite happy with them). There I found the HUGE difference in prices for glasses lenses that I pay versus what she pays.

OOooFF!

Her lenses are around $50 or some such while mine run $150+ (Strongest prescription means I need high index plastic, plus I wear progressive lens… and I also get polarizing glasses so I don’t need a separate pair of sunglasses).

What is this about?

Of course, we do have vision insurance available, but when I did the numbers, it just worked out to be a different way to spend the same amount of money.

… and, of course, no coverage for hearing aids which are even more (much more) expensive.

SIGH – US Health Insurance strikes again!
