Uncovering the Hidden World of Disability Financial Planning
Disability Financial Planning feels like an exercise in bad-movie Egyptian Archeology – you spend years trying to understand it, you never know what you are going to find… and beware of curses (sometimes you’ll be the one cursing!).
I’ve been working to understand how all of this works to plan for my autistic son’s future, but along the way, I’m working to pull together a clear, rather opinionated resource that hopefully will help you with your financial planning – whether you are a disabled adult or the parent of a child with disabilities.
This stuff is maddening, finding information is more difficult than it should be, an how the systems work seems to be designed for maximum screwage… it is almost as if there is a perverse secret policy for everything disability:
Don’t Tell, Don’t Ask.
As I have a weird obsession with data and I hate for people to have to redo work, I’ve been sharing what I’ve learned.
If it helps, I hope you share this information with others.
If I’ve made errors (I wouldn’t be surprised)… I hope you’ll correct me so I can update this.
… and if you have some information that you’d like to share, please let me know.
We are all in this together.
Steve
