14 November 2023 Palo Alto School Board Meeting

3a. Promise / Equity Report – Lack of data on Students with Disabilities (190 last year), Socio-economically disadvantaged students (197 students). Huge disproportionality for Hispanic students in terms of D, F, and NM… with the numbers largely getting worse. 14.2 %..38% of Ds, 47% Fs,

3c. MTSS – on the dashboard data…that the SEL data is “Green” for SWD would seem to indicate that important information is not being captured by MTSS given the substantial concerns and redirection related to behavioral issues this past year. Raw incident counts is clearly inadequate.

Dashboard “funnel” should provide breakdown by different groups…

4. Open Forum – Public Record Request for what should be a simple information – how many special ed students in what placement… and what are the graduation rates for each.

5D. Classified – (and Certificated). Staffing is the most critical function of the district headquarters. Neither these staffing updates nor the job postings provide any information to indicate how many vacancies the district actually has. …

5E – $324,980 and change in settlements since the last board meeting. This doesn’t include direct payments to family law firms or the cost of the PAUSD attorneys. These settlements are rarely the result of a single incident, they result from a culture that is hostile to parents and a sustained pattern of non-compliance.

8A – Enrollment Report. When is PAUSD going to take action on the decline in enrollment in the district and look to our future. According to the elementary schoool report, we have lost around 2000 elementary age students in the past 10 years. That is the equivalent of 4 elementary schools worth of kids that are gone.
